Lets Diagnose and Treat a case of Genetic Hair loss
A 26-year-old male presents with complaints of progressive hair thinning over the crown and frontal scalp. He reports oily dandruff associated with an itchy and flaky scalp, . There are no other comorbidities or systemic symptoms. The patient has a positive family history of pattern baldness (father and paternal uncle). He expresses
significant emotional distress and stress related to his ongoing hair loss, which he feels is affecting his confidence and social interactions.
Lets Solve The Case Step by Step
1) Medical History
1st We will take a detailed Medical comprising of :
Chief complaint , past History , Drug History , Family History ,
comorbidities & Scalp Health and Mental History
2) Scalp Analysis
- Frontal Recession: Visible deep thinning around the temples.
- Intermediate Band of Hair: The region separating the crown and frontal balding areas is still intact but appears thin.
Suggestive of Grade 4 male AGA + SD
Additionally:
- The visible dandruff and scalp scaling suggest seborrheic dermatitis, which can contribute to inflammation and exacerbate hair loss.
Rx
1) We used Anti-dandruff Shampoo 3-4 times a week for 2 weeks + oral
Antifungal as Prescribed
2) Supplemented Patient with Muliti-vitamins , Multi-minerals , Plant based DHt
Blockers, we chose Japanese Biotin + Saw palmetto & Piroctone Olamine Shampoo in this
patient
3) Serums RCP to be added once daily at night for 3 weeks post which
frequency can be increased.
if you are planning to incl. minoxidil it should be incorporated after 3 weeks
only as alcohol can irritate the scalp and increase inflamation
Follow after 3 weeks
Dermatitis is in control and we can visualize increase in hair quality suggesting , replenishment of hair fiber by combination of Hair serum and Mtv.
In such a case we tend to continue the Anti dandruff treatment for 2 more weeks to completely eradicate Fungal spores and decrease chances of re-occurence.
We will council the patient to sanitize every thing that comes in contact to head and can act as reservoir of infection like , comb , helmet , Pillow Cover etc .
We will Include High Protein Diet and Will Council the patient to stay motivated for the Treatment
